Woman’s Jaw Dislocates Eating Pani Puri: Most people like to eat Golgappa. People’s mouths start watering as soon as they see golgappas on roadside carts. Some people are unable to control themselves after seeing golgappas and go to the cart to taste them. It is okay to eat Golgappa, but in Auraiya, UP, a woman found it difficult to eat Golgappa. A 42 year old woman had come to Auraiya for some work and went to eat Golgappa at a cart there. As soon as he opened his mouth to eat Golgappa, his jaw dropped and his mouth fell open. Despite all efforts his mouth did not shut. After this the woman was taken to the doctor. The doctor also tried all his methods, but the woman’s jaw remained the same. Later he was referred to Bade Hospital and there his jaw was cured.
The woman’s jaw remained open for about an hour and after hard work of the doctors, the woman was able to come back to her normal condition. This matter has become a topic of discussion from social media to the streets of Auraiya. Doctors told that the woman’s jaw had slipped from its place, which is called jaw dislocation in medical language. This incident may sound strange, but some such cases have come to light in the past also. Now the question is why does this happen and how can it be avoided? Let’s try to understand this from the doctor.
Why does the jaw slip?
Dr. Anil Bansal, former President and Senior Physician of Delhi Medical Association told StuffUnknown That when we open our mouth too much to eat Golgappa or any big thing, then suddenly there is more pressure on the jaw joint. This pressure can displace the joint from its place. This is the reason why some people face this problem while yawning, laughing or while eating big food with their teeth open. This problem is rare, but many people are at higher risk. In such a situation, everyone should be careful while eating and should not open their mouth excessively.
Which people are more at risk?
The doctor told that some people are at higher risk of jaw dislocation. Those who already have pain or rattling sound in the jaw, whose jaw is weak or loose, who have had jaw disease in the past, are at higher risk. People whose teeth are uneven and their mouth is unable to open properly or whose mouth naturally opens too much should also be careful while eating and drinking. If people try to take large sized food at one go, the jaw may dislocate. After the jaw slips, the mouth remains open and does not close. Due to this, there is severe pain near the ears and jaw. There is difficulty in speaking, eating and swallowing. There is stiffness and nervousness in the face. In such a situation, the person is unable to close his mouth on his own, hence doctor’s help is necessary.
What is the treatment and prevention of jaw dislocation?
The expert said that if someone’s jaw gets dislocated, then the doctor first slowly sets the jaw back in the right place, which is called reposition. Sometimes the muscles are loosened by giving mild medicines or injections, so that pain and stiffness are reduced. If the matter is serious, X-ray or scan may also have to be done. After the treatment, it is advised to eat soft food, speak less and not open the mouth much for a few days. To avoid this problem, do not eat big golgappas, burgers or food in one go. Do not open your mouth too much while yawning. If you already have problems with your teeth or jaw, get a checkup done by a doctor. Do not hurry while eating.
