One of these traditional dishes is Rice Dumbu, which is eaten with great enthusiasm in the rural and tribal areas of Jharkhand. This dish is not only unique in taste, but is also considered very beneficial for health.
This dish is as simple as it is delicious. To make Rice Dumbu, firstly flour is prepared by grinding rice. Then warm water is added to it and soft dough is kneaded. After this, a sweet mixture is prepared by mixing coconut shavings and jaggery, which creates the real taste of Doombu. Now a ball is made of rice flour, jaggery-coconut mixture is filled in it and the ball is given a round shape. These round dumbas are placed in idli molds and steamed for about 15 minutes. After steaming, this dish becomes ready to eat with natural sweetness and soft texture.

The most special thing about Rice Dumbu is that neither oil nor any kind of spice is used in making it. Natural ingredients like jaggery and coconut make it not only tasty but also nutritious. It is a very light and digestible food for everyone from children to the elderly. In Palamu district of Jharkhand, Rice Dumbu is also served along with dishes made from coarse grains in many government functions, due to which its popularity is increasing further.
The taste reached the district office from the village
This traditional dish prepared in Chainpur block is no longer limited to villages only. When the rice reaches the Dumbu district office or officials through “Didi Chicken Chainpur”, they also become convinced of its taste. Its natural taste, aroma and healthy properties give it a special place in the traditional dishes of Jharkhand.
