Gumla: It is said that if the intention is strong and the hard work is true then no compulsion can stop a person’s path. Disabled Shravan Oraon, resident of Jagbagicha village of Ghaghra block of Gumla district, has proved this to be true. Despite being disabled in both legs, Shravan is earning Rs 4 to 5 lakh annually today. They support themselves and their families with respect.
Disabled with legs, but covered a journey worth lakhs
Shravan Oraon comes from an ordinary family. He often went out of home to other states in search of work. But a few years ago a big accident happened in his life. During the journey, Shravan lost both his legs in a train accident. Treatment continued in the hospital for about a month. After this he returned home, but life had become difficult. It was difficult to walk and the hope of working was also lost.
Shravan told that he was completely dejected after the accident. During this time he also got married. Wife is also disabled. In such a situation, running the house became a challenge. But Shravan did not break. He thought that if he did not get a job, he would start his own business.
Uncle’s house showed the successful path
During this time he went to his uncle’s house. There I saw that my uncle was earning well by rearing pigs. A ray of hope arose in Shravan’s mind and he also decided to start pig farming. He somehow made arrangements and bought two pigs and started rearing them in the courtyard of the house. He told that it was very difficult in the beginning. Many pigs also died from disease. But I did not lose courage.
After this, Shravan got information that free training in pig farming is given in Bank of India Rural Self-Employment Training Institute (RSETI) located in Silam, Gumla. They took training and learned disease prevention, medicine, proper eating habits and care methods. After training, his hard work gained momentum. Now more than 25 pigs always live at his place. A pig is ready in 10-12 months. 2 pigs are sold for 25-30 thousand rupees. The traders themselves come to their homes and buy the prepared pigs.
Hades took away his legs, but not his courage
Shravan says that the accident took away my legs, but not my courage. Today Shravan earns Rs 4 to 5 lakh every year. He brings fodder himself on his tricycle. He does all the work of cleaning and medicines himself. His wife also fully supports him. He says that if the government and society help, many people like me can change their lives. The people of the village now also look at Shravan as an inspiration. His life shows that no matter how big the difficulties are, they cannot be defeated by hard work and self-confidence.
