To protect the livestock from the harshness of winter and keep them healthy, Dr. Priyanka of the Livestock Department, Korba, has advised the livestock owners to pay special attention to three important things. Dr. According to Priyanka, during the winter season, cattle farmers should pay special attention to the housing, food and vaccination of their animals.
Housing management: protection from cold of the ground is necessary
The first and most important step to prevent cold is housing management.Dr. Priyanka told that to protect the animals from the direct cold of the ground, it is mandatory to lay adequate amount of para (straw) or chaff under them. This bedding not only provides them warmth, but also protects them from wetness and the cold ground below. Apart from this, special care should be taken that the animals are not directly exposed to cold winds or frost. The cow shed or animal enclosure should be closed from such a direction that the cold wind does not fall directly on the cattle. For this, gunny bags, sacks or plastic sheets can be used on the sides of the shed.
Balanced diet: Importance of green fodder and grains
It is very important to maintain the immunity of animals during winter, which is directly related to their food. Dr. Priyanka said that by relying only on dry fodder (dry para or straw), animals do not get adequate nutritious food, due to which they become weak and can become victims of diseases like pneumonia. To protect animals from pneumonia, include adequate amount of nutritious elements in their diet. Give priority to green fodder and also make adequate arrangements for grain mixture, cake and mineral mixture. This balanced diet makes the animals strong from within.
timely vaccination
Many viral and bacterial diseases spread rapidly in winter. Therefore, animal farmers should contact the livestock department and get their cattle vaccinated at the appropriate time. Vaccination is the simplest and most effective way to prevent any viral disease.
Dr. Priyanka has appealed that by keeping these three simple but important things in mind, animal husbandry brothers can save their livestock from serious losses during the winter season and ensure their income.
