More than five new HIV patients are being found every month in Lakhisarai in 2025. Since 2003, more than 900 confirmed infections and more than 70 deaths have been recorded in the district. The infection of more than 200 children aged between 0 to 18 years has increased the concern of the health department.
Lakhisarai: The ‘silent crisis’ related to health is spreading rapidly in Lakhisarai, Bihar. Despite all the efforts of the Health Department and the ongoing awareness campaign, a frightening increase in the cases of HIV-AIDS is being recorded. This threat has become so serious that between January and November in 2025, more than five new infected patients have been reported every month. In the small district Lakhisarai, this number has become a matter of concern for both the health department and the common people.
Awareness rally and seminar, still infection is increasing
Here, according to CS Dr. Umesh Prasad Singh, with the help of GNM, ANM and paramedical students, people are made aware about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of incurable diseases like HIV. Seminar on AIDS is organized in the auditorium of Sadar Hospital and discussions are held to dispel myths in the society and to provide benefits of government incentive schemes to the patients.
More than 900 patients in 22 years
HIV testing in Lakhisarai started in 2003. But since then, more than 900 patients have been confirmed till November 30, 2025. Figures show that the infected include men, women of all ages and 70 pregnant women. The most shocking thing is that till now the deaths of more than 70 infected people have been recorded. NCDO in-charge Dr. Ashwani Kumar says that after the treatment starts, the government gives incentive amount to the infected people. For patients between 0 to 18 years, Rs 1000 per month, while for those above 18 years, Rs 1500 for life. At present testing facilities are available at nine health centers including the district jail.
More than 200 people aged between 0 to 18 years infected
According to Health Department data, more than 200 children and teenagers are included among the 900+ infected people in the district. Of these, 65 were found infected in Lakhisarai, 60 in Suryagarha, 30 in Badhiya, 21 in Pipariya, 15 in Halsi, 13 in Ramgarh Chowk and 14 in Chanan. Getting such a large number of minors infected is the biggest warning sign for the district.
