When and how is gas formed?
Gas usually occurs when digestion slows down. If food is digested late, the intestines get filled with air and there is a feeling of bloating or heaviness. This may also be accompanied by excessive burping. Gas increases due to constipation, eating too fast, drinking tea repeatedly during the day or eating things like pulses, cabbage, gram etc. Stress also slows down digestion and creates gas. In Ayurveda it is called aggravation of Vata. Turmeric, celery and dry ginger are considered very beneficial in reducing gas.
What is acidity and how does it occur?
In acidity, a burning sensation is felt in the upper part of the stomach. Symptoms of acidity are burning sensation in the chest, sour taste in the mouth and feeling of food regurgitating. Eating spicy or oily food, eating late at night, drinking excess tea, coffee and cold drinks increases it. In Ayurveda it is considered to be an imbalance of bile. Drinking coconut water and fennel provides relief. Cold milk and jaggery are also helpful in reducing acidity. Eating light food and eating on time also gives relief to the stomach.
