In winter, frequent changes in temperature and wind take away the moisture from the throat. According to Ayurveda, in winter, both Vata and Kapha of the body become unbalanced, due to which the throat becomes dry, heavy or hoarse. Science also believes that cold and dry air affects the mucus lining of the throat, due to which viruses and bacteria take hold in the body faster. In such a situation, pain in the throat, sore throat, hoarseness and difficulty in swallowing food are common, but if natural remedies are taken from some things present in the kitchen of the house, then it provides quick relief from the problem. Let us know about these things-
These 3 things will give relief from throat pain and soreness
black pepper: Black pepper has been considered in Ayurveda as a medicine which helps in reducing mucus. An element called piperine found in black pepper reduces the excess phlegm accumulated in the throat and makes the voice clear. When it is chewed and eaten with sugar candy, it helps in reducing swelling and heaviness in the throat. Mishri is considered to have a cooling and softening effect on the throat, which reduces burning sensation and soreness.
According to science, the anti-inflammatory effect of black pepper reduces swelling of the throat, making the voice feel clearer than before. The decoction made of basil and black pepper adds more strength to it as the eugenol present in basil helps in fighting throat infections.
Ginger: Ginger juice is no less than a natural medicine for throat in winter. In Ayurveda, ginger is considered to strengthen the digestive and respiratory systems. An element called gingerol present in ginger works to reduce swelling and provide relief from pain. When its juice is taken with lemon and rock salt, it relaxes the throat muscles and calms the swelling quickly.
The mild acidic nature of lemon reduces the bacteria accumulated in the throat and rock salt helps in cleaning the throat. Scientific studies have also found that ginger is helpful in reducing the intensity of viral infections.
Liquorice: Liquorice has been called Yashtimadhu in Ayurveda and it soothes swelling, soreness and pain in the throat. The natural sweetness present in it forms a protective layer on the throat which reduces irritation. Along with liquorice, sugar candy and amla… these three things together are an excellent natural tonic for the throat. Amla is a major source of Vitamin C and increases the immunity of the body. Its antioxidant properties help the infected throat tissue to heal quickly.
Mishri balances this mixture and provides softness to the throat. Scientific research shows that liquorice contains a compound called glycyrrhizin which reduces inflammation and amla speeds up the healing process of the body.
