Amid the ongoing tug of war for power in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday confirmed that he has invited Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for breakfast on December 2. He stressed that the two leaders will continue to work as a team. This meeting to be held on Tuesday will be the second ‘breakfast meeting’ between the two Congress leaders. Earlier, on November 29, the Chief Minister had hosted Shivkumar at his residence.
Will Siddaramaiah accept the invitation?
Earlier today, CM Siddaramaiah said that he has not yet received a call from Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar inviting him for breakfast. However, he said that he will go whenever he is invited. Siddaramaiah told reporters, if Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar calls me for breakfast, I am ready to go. He had said in the breakfast meeting that day (30 November) that he would invite me. He told me that I should come to his residence on Tuesday for breakfast. But I have not received any call yet. If they invite us, I will go.
BJP took a pinch
Amid the ongoing politics in Karnataka’s ruling party, BJP took a sharp dig and said that people are enjoying “free entertainment” without paying any tax. BJP MLA S Suresh Kumar said, this is free entertainment without paying any tax. The much-awaited winter session is about to begin in seven days… People are waiting for that session so that serious issues can be raised, and the government is still entangled in its own conflict and confusion.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday tried to dismiss the speculations and said that the two leaders would meet frequently. He said, we can also hold meetings over breakfast, lunch and dinner. They will discuss all issues in these meetings. Shivkumar had told that the Chief Minister had invited him for breakfast, and naturally, he said that he too would extend this courtesy.
no internal strife
Gundu Rao insisted that there was no internal discord and the party high command would take all important decisions. He said, there is no confusion within the party. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are united and will move forward together. Talks of change of leadership are unnecessary and are not in the interest of the party or the government. He criticized reports of instability, claiming that the media has been showing turmoil for months. He said, for two and a half years the media has been telling that there is confusion within the government. But it is nothing like that. The CM and Deputy CM are working in coordination, and the crisis that some people were expecting in November never came. We have cleared up any misunderstandings and are moving forward.
