Jammu Kashmir News: School teachers in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir have been given the new responsibility of monitoring stray dogs. Under the order, a teacher in every school will be made the nodal officer for stray dog reporting and coordination with municipal authorities. Teachers have protested, calling it disrespectful and an unnecessary burden apart from studies.
New Delhi: The situation of government school teachers in this country seems very bad. Any government work is handed over to the school teacher. From SIR to election duty. Now a strange order has come to light for government school teachers from Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. It has been said in this order that now teachers in government schools have not only been entrusted with the responsibility of teaching children, but have also been entrusted with the responsibility of keeping an eye on the stray dogs roaming around the schools. Many teachers say that this decision undermines their professional role.
According to this instruction, every school has to make one teacher as ‘nodal officer’. Which will note the stray dogs seen near the campus daily, will alert the municipal team and will keep in direct contact with their team. The surprising thing is that the names and mobile numbers of these appointed teachers will be written openly on the school wall. Teachers have called it a direct attack on privacy.
What is the matter?
While issuing the order, the education authority of Poonch district has said that teachers will now also report stray dog activities. Every school has to appoint a teacher as a nodal officer, who will regularly assess the security inside and outside the campus. It has been clearly stated in the order that if a stray dog is seen, the municipal authorities should be immediately contacted, so that the safety of the students and staff can be ensured.

Why did the controversy arise?
As soon as this order was issued, strong protest started in the teacher community. Teachers say that this is the work of the administration or municipal bodies, not of the teachers. He says that studies, examinations and school management are already a lot of work. And now this responsibility is completely different from their original work. Many teachers have called this directive disrespectful, a joke and an undue burden. Besides, serious questions are also being raised regarding the mobile number of the nodal teacher being written on the school wall. Teachers say that this may put their personal safety and privacy at risk.
How will the order be implemented?
- The school will have to appoint a teacher as the nodal officer.
- Nodal officers will monitor the activities of stray dogs daily.
- Teachers will coordinate directly with municipal officials.
- The name and mobile number of the nodal teacher will be pasted on the school wall.
- In case of any risk, there are instructions to give information for immediate action.
Not only in Poonch, such discussions have taken place in other states also.
What next?
Despite opposition from the teaching community, the department has not yet given any formal response. The teachers demand that this order should be withdrawn immediately and if any steps have to be taken for security reasons, then trained municipal staff should be deployed for it and not teachers.
