New Delhi: India has taken another big step in the defense sector. A deal has been signed between Solar Defense & Aerospace Ltd (SDAL) and CSIR-NAL to make a stealth loitering munition drone weighing 150 kg. The specialty of this drone is that it will be able to operate up to a height of 5 kilometers without being noticed by the enemy and can hit targets at a depth of up to 900 kilometers. This capability can prove to be decisive for India in future wars and security challenges.
With this deal, a new chapter of India’s self-reliant defense technology has started. Stealth features, AI-based surveillance system, long range and ability to work even in areas with GPS jamming make it a game-changing weapon of the future.
India’s biggest achievement: SDAL-NAL joint partnership
This agreement was signed in Bengaluru and is being considered a milestone in India’s future war preparations. CSIR-NAL and SDAL will together design, develop and test this Loitering Munition UAV. Most importantly, the Wankel engine installed in this drone is made by NAL. It has already been certified by CEMILAC for aviation testing. This engine is completely indigenous and is a big leap in India’s aerospace technology.

Stealth technology is the strongest strength of this drone. Due to its very low Radar Cross Section (RCS), it is difficult to be detected by enemy radar. It can also operate in areas where GPS signals are jammed or unavailable, which is a vital capability in today’s electronic warfare.

This will bring major improvement in India’s defense R&D. This collaboration will progress from design to testing in a single chain.
