If even once the crops standing in the field are affected by insects or any disease, then the farmers suffer huge losses. Firstly, money is spent on medicines to cure crop diseases and insects and secondly, crop yield is reduced. Due to this, farmers suffer double loss. For this, beach treatment is of great benefit. It is the season of wheat and by treating the seeds and sowing it, there will be no diseases in the crop and the wheat will have more ears and the grains will also be thicker.
Palamu: In Jharkhand and Bihar, sowing of wheat starts with the Rabi season. Wheat crop is considered a major basis for the economic strength of farmers. Farmers of Palamu district also cultivate it in large quantities. For its cultivation, timely sowing, proper irrigation and selection of improved varieties play an important role in increasing production. Even small carelessness in its cultivation can cause big losses. This is why experts lay special emphasis on the quality and safety of seeds before sowing.
Why is seed treatment important?
Dr. Akhilesh Shah, an agricultural scientist at the Regional Research Center Chianki in Palamu district, told Local 18 that just as vaccination is given to newborn children to protect them from diseases, in the same way seed treatment is very important to protect crops from diseases. Fungi, germs and other pathogens present on wheat seeds can affect the germination of the crop. Due to this the crop becomes weak. Many times, when seeds are sown without treatment, diseases like root rot, smut, blight attack the crop. In such a situation, production decreases and the farmer has to suffer financial loss. Therefore, seed treatment is considered the first “vaccination” of the crop, which is necessary for future crop protection.
How to treat seeds?
The most common and effective method is to use fungicides for seed treatment. According to experts, 2 grams of medicine should be applied per kilogram of seeds. If a farmer has 100 kg of seeds, he will need about 200 grams of medicine. During treatment, soak the seeds lightly and mix the medicine well. This process should be completed at least 4 hours before sowing. After treatment, dry the seeds and sow them in light shade, so that the medicine remains effective and germination is not affected.
Benefits of seed treatment – production will increase, expenses will decrease
He further said that by doing seed treatment, the crop remains safe from the outbreak of diseases from the very beginning. Healthy plants grow faster, roots develop better and crops remain strong throughout the season. This also reduces the additional expenditure on medicines. Disease free crop not only gives more ears but the grains are also thick and of quality. Overall wheat production increases and farmers get better profits.
