Sulochana Meena created a new record in her area by becoming an IAS at the age of just 22. She is the first woman in her area to become an IAS. He told Local 18 in an interview that his father and mother wanted him to become a doctor, but by deciding to go into administrative service, he gave a new direction to his dreams along with his father’s hopes.
Today, daughters are hoisting the flag of their talent in every field. Another inspiring name added to this series is that of IAS Sulochana Meena, who created history by realizing her dream at the age of just 22. Keeping his dream as his goal, he passed the difficult examination of UPSC with hard work and dedication. Her first posting was as Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) in Palamu district of Jharkhand, where she is now showing a new path to the hopes and development of the villagers.
Sulochana Meena, resident of Adalwada village of Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, is an extraordinary daughter of an ordinary family. He appeared in the UPSC examination in the year 2021, when he was only 22 years old. In the result released in 2022, he secured All India Rank 415 and got sixth position in ST category. By achieving success at a young age, she joined the list of those young candidates who passed the difficult examination with flying colors in the first attempt itself. Presently he is working in Palamu.

Sulochana tells that she had heard in her childhood that IAS is the ‘boss of the district’. From there his dreams started taking flight. To make his dream come true, he took admission in B.Sc. Botany in Delhi University after 12th. Along with studies, she was an active member of NSS (National Service Scheme) in college. These experiences of social service further strengthened his qualities of responsibility and leadership, which later helped him a lot when he entered the administrative service.
Sulochana is the first daughter not only of her family but also of her village to become an IAS officer. She is the first candidate from the women’s category in the district to be selected at such a young age. His success has changed the atmosphere of the entire village. Whereas earlier daughters were limited to small dreams, now girls have started dreaming of preparing for UPSC. Many families are pursuing their daughters’ education by sending them to Delhi or Jaipur. This journey of Sulochana has today become an inspiration for the new generation of the village.
Sulochana Meena advises the youth preparing to adopt a very simple and effective strategy. He believes that after completing college, candidates should focus on reading newspapers and current affairs. He himself made studying for 8 to 9 hours daily a part of his daily routine. In the beginning, it took him 5 to 6 hours to understand the newspaper and catch the important points, but gradually this habit became his biggest strength. She says that patience is the real key to UPSC preparation.
Sulochana Meena told in the interview that today there are many such channels on Telegram which are no less than a treasure for those preparing for UPSC. Not only are clean notes available there, but daily updated current affairs and PDFs are also available. The free lectures, daily analysis and answer writing classes available on YouTube were also very helpful for him. He believes that even if resources are limited, any candidate can improve his/her preparation by making proper use of these free platforms.
During her studies, Sulochana started with NCERT and then focused on standard books related to the subject. She gives the biggest credit for her success to mock tests and test series. He says that it is very important to give tests continuously to understand the exam pattern and learn time management. At present, she finds the free classes available on YouTube and Telegram, guidelines and notes of toppers very useful.
