Parliament Winter Session LIVE: BJP leader Rohan Gupta has targeted the opposition and especially Rahul Gandhi. He first raised questions on Rahul Gandhi going abroad and said that next week when the winter session of Lok Sabha is going on, Rahul Gandhi is going to Germany. Rohan Gupta said that this happens every time, whenever there is an important debate or a big issue in the Parliament, Rahul Gandhi leaves the country. He said that the opposition always says that we do not get a chance to speak, we are stopped, but when the session goes on and they get a chance, then they themselves go abroad. This does not show his seriousness. According to Rohan Gupta, the opposition continuously wastes the time of Parliament. He said that the opposition should understand that nothing can be more important than the Parliament session. When the time comes to raise issues, what does going abroad prove? The public is also watching this.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy was seen smoking a cigarette outside Parliament on Thursday, triggering a spat with Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The incident occurred amid increased surveillance on the use of e-cigarettes in the Lok Sabha. Senior TMC member Roy was heard saying during the conversation, ‘We cannot smoke inside the building, but outside.’ Giriraj Singh and Shekhawat expressed concern about public health and the dignity of the House. Shekhawat replied, ‘You are putting public health at risk, Dada.’ Giriraj Singh further said that BJP MP Anurag Thakur raised this issue. E-cigarettes were banned in 2019 and if an MP smokes an e-cigarette inside the House, it hurts the dignity of the House. This is very unfortunate. This shows how much they (TMC) respect the House.
How many cases are pending in the court?
Rajya Sabha was told that more than 5.49 crore cases are pending in different courts of the country. Of these, about 90 thousand cases are in the Supreme Court. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said in a written reply that a total of more than 5.49 crore cases are still pending from the Supreme Court to the lower courts. 90,897 cases are awaiting disposal in the Supreme Court, while 63,63,406 cases are pending in 25 High Courts. The number of cases pending in lower courts is very high. As of December 8, a total of 4,84,57,343 cases were pending. Meghwal said that there are many reasons for pendency of cases in courts, such as the complexity of the cases, nature of evidence, cooperation of the parties concerned (lawyers, investigating agencies, witnesses and litigants), as well as the physical facilities of the courts and availability of support staff.
