UAE Work Culture: It is the dream of many Indians to settle in Dubai and work there, but we are going to tell you about a person who left a job worth lakhs to return home. Here we are talking about Edwin Netto, a product designer by profession, who is currently working at Google in Bengaluru. Edwin has shared his story on Instagram. He told that despite getting a tax free salary of Rs 7.5 lakh every month, I left my job six years ago.
Why did Edwin decide to leave work?
Edwin told that while living in Abu Dhabi, it took him five months to get a UAE work visa, but within three months he has realized that the Middle East is not a suitable place for him to work. Due to the limited working hours and the newly started tech ecosystem, he was forced to take his decision of leaving the job.
Edwin said, “In India, the focus is not on attendance but on outcomes. I had become used to being accountable for my own work. There is no this flexibility there. If I had not punched in at 9 in the morning, half day would have been imposed.” Edwin says, “Of course, amazing work is being done on infrastructure and physical development in UAE, but the issue of digital product culture is new here. The problem was not about money, but about mentality.
This is also a problem in work culture
Edwin also told that there is a great lack of leadership in UAE. Local people are kept on top roles, their ability is ignored. In such a situation, it becomes difficult for a person knowledgeable about the subject to flourish. He said, “At first glance, earning 30,000 AED per month may seem like a big deal because you can live a comfortable life by spending around 10,000 AED. This means that I was saving around AED 20,000 every month.
