Bank Domain Change- From SBI to ICICI and almost all the small and big banks of the country have simultaneously shifted their websites to .BANK.IN. This change, which seems ‘sudden’ to the general public, is actually the last phase of a bigger plan of RBI.
New Delhi. The address or domain name of the websites of all the banks of the country including State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI and HDFC Bank has changed. Whereas earlier they used to open on .com or .co.in, now they end with .bank.in (dot bank.in). When some people saw the changed address, they were shocked and felt that something was wrong. But, it is nothing like that. PIB has also now told that this change has been made by the government to make the banking system of the country more secure and is beneficial for you.
The real and only reason for this big change is ‘your safety’. In the last few years, most of the cases of banking fraud have occurred through ‘phishing’. What the fraudsters used to do was that they used to create a fake website similar to SBI or ICICI. To strengthen cyber security and prevent online fraud, RBI decided to make it mandatory for all banks to change their official website domain to ‘.bank.in’.
RBI’s ‘masterstroke’.BANK.IN
Anyone can buy a .com or .in domain, which is why fraudsters can easily create fake websites. But .BANK.IN is a ‘premium’ and ‘exclusive’ domain. This is not a simple domain that anyone can go and buy. This can be availed only by those institutions which are registered with RBI and which have been fully vetted. This is a masterstroke by RBI to stop fraud. RBI had instructed all banks, payment operators and financial institutions that they will have to shift to this new and secure domain by 31 October 2025.
Has the Reserve Bank of India directed all banks to migrate to ‘.bank.in’ domain?#PIBFactCheck✅ Yes, this claim is true.
