China-Japan On Taiwan Issue: At present, the issue of Taiwan is so stuck between China and Japan that even US President Donald Trump has become involved in it. In the latest development, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi had an important phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday. This call is considered important because it has taken place at a time when Trump had previously spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the diplomatic rift between Japan and China regarding Taiwan has once again come to the fore.
This controversy increased when Sanae Takaichi, after assuming the throne as the first woman Prime Minister, recently made a big statement in the Parliament regarding Taiwan. He had said that if China attacks Taiwan, it could become a battle of existence for Japan. In such a situation, Japan will not shy away from military intervention. The result was that China also came forward openly and while reacting strongly to this statement, China’s Consul General in Osaka openly threatened to cut the throat of the Japanese PM.
There was a talk between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping
On Monday, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping had a conversation, in which Xi reiterated that Taiwan’s return to China is an important part of Beijing’s global strategy, as decided after World War II. Trump did mention the progress of US-China trade talks in his post, but refrained from making any public statement on the issue of Taiwan. However, this call must have made the Japanese PM uneasy, that is why he immediately spoke to Trump on Tuesday. After the phone call, Takaichi told reporters – ‘President Trump gave a brief explanation about the current situation of US-China relations’. Takaichi has not given any more details of this conversation.

On whose side is Trump standing?
This is very difficult to say because despite the rivalry with China, Donald Trump never wants to distance himself from China in terms of global economy. The world has seen this in the case of purchase of Russian oil also. Although Japan’s PM has said that Trump is her very good friend, but Trump’s friendship is often dangerous. Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said that stability in US-China relations is very important not only for Japan but also for the entire international community. There was no comment from his side on Xi Jinping’s statement on Taiwan to Trump.
Tension increased between China and Japan
This discussion is taking place at a time when China has taken concrete steps against Japan. China has issued a warning to Japan-visitors to avoid traveling to Japan. Apart from this, China has banned Japanese seafood imports and has also imposed other economic sanctions. This tension seems to be the deepest tension in Japan-China relations in recent times. Takaichi has talked about talks but China’s sharp reactions and trade sanctions have created a more complicated situation between the two countries.
