Delhi IGI Airport ATC AMSS Crash: Five months ago, the Air Traffic Controllers Guild of India had warned the Parliament Committee as well as the top management of AAI about the problems being faced in the ATC system. But, despite warnings, the result remained the same. Read the full news to know what the whole matter is.
Delhi IGI Airport ATC AMSS Crash: On Friday, flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport almost came to a standstill due to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) crash. The impact of this crash in Delhi ATC was not limited to IGI Airport only, rather this impact was seen in almost all the airports of the country. You will be surprised to know that the system crash due to which flight operations at all the airports of the country came to a halt on Friday, was a glitch for which warnings had been given months ago.
You may be a little surprised by this information, but it is completely true. The second truth is that if the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had paid attention in time after this warning, perhaps today hundreds of flights and lakhs of passengers would not have had to worry unnecessarily. Let us tell you that when AAI did not pay any attention to the demand of ATC controllers, the Air Traffic Controllers Guild of India had also written a letter to the Parliament Standing Committee in this regard. In this letter written in July 2025, it was clearly stated that the ATC system is now quite old.
The guild had warned five months ago
According to sources related to AAI, in the letter written by the guild, it was also told that the automation systems being used at big airports like Delhi and Mumbai are continuously facing the problem of slow performance and lag. These are the same systems that manage the country’s air traffic. This means that if there is any kind of glitch in these, then the entire aviation system can come to a standstill. The Guild had written its letter saying that now the time has come to review and upgrade these automation systems of air navigation services, because the traffic is increasing rapidly and operations are becoming more complex day by day.
Warning was given just after the plane crash
He also said that India will now have to take its systems to global standards. The Guild had also cited the systems of Europe’s Eurocontrol and America’s Federal Aviation Administration. He had told that the system present in these countries is not only of advanced technology, but also works on AI-based prediction, real-time data sharing and smart conflict detection systems. Let us tell you that the Guild had written this letter after the AI 171 flight crash, so that immediate action could be taken on some very important issues related to safety. But the sad thing is that despite these things reaching the top management of AAI several times, no concrete steps were taken.
Technical glitch or negligence of the system
Now on Friday, when due to system crash at IGI Airport, hundreds of flights were delayed and thousands of passengers were stranded at the airports, the same old question arose again. Why was the system not upgraded despite so many warnings? Experts say that if the technical infrastructure had been upgraded on time, perhaps such a situation would not have arisen at IGI Airport on Friday. Overall, this was not just a technical glitch but a living example of the negligence of the system.
