Gold on Earth: Do you know how much gold has been extracted from the earth till now and how much gold reserves are still left. Which country still has the largest gold reserves?
New Delhi. There is probably no need to tell anyone the importance of gold. Countries around the world are increasing their gold reserves. The reason is also clear that in any trouble, only gold can save. But, with this race of the world after gold, another question arises that how much gold is left in the womb of the earth and how much gold has been extracted since the beginning of human civilization.
According to the World Gold Council, since the beginning of human history, only about 2.16 lakh tonnes of gold has been extracted from the earth. Actually, the council has given this figure only till the end of the year 2024. It has been said in the report that out of the total gold extracted so far, about 66 percent has been extracted only since 1950. If the total gold extracted so far is put together, it would be equal to a cube of 22 meters, which is about the height of a 4-storey building.
how much gold is left now
According to the World Gold Council, there is not much gold left under the earth. According to estimates, only 54 thousand to 70 thousand tons of gold is left under the earth. According to the US Geological Survey, there are reserves of about 2.44 lakh tonnes of gold in the earth, most of which has been extracted and only about 57 thousand tonnes of gold is left. However, there are some estimated resources, which can lead to additional reserves of 1.32 lakh tonnes of gold in future.
Which country has the most gold
If we estimate the total gold reserves left in the earth, then Russia and Australia have the most. Both the countries have reserves of about 12-12 thousand tonnes of gold. It has also been estimated in the report that there is a lot of gold in the earth’s core, perhaps its quantity could be billions of tons. However, reaching here is currently beyond the reach of humans. With the technology developed so far, only the upper layer of the earth can be reached.
In how many years will the stock be exhausted?
You may not like the answer to this, but every year about 3,000 tonnes of gold is extracted in the world. Seen from this perspective, all the gold left in the earth will be taken out in the coming 20 years. However, the council’s estimate is based only on the gold reserves known so far. If new discoveries reveal some more reserves then it will be a different matter. With AI technology, it may be possible to extract more gold reserves in the future. At present, out of the gold that has been extracted, 45 percent has been used in making jewellery, 22 percent has been molded into coins and bars, while 17 percent of the gold is kept in central banks around the world including RBI.
