After the Indigo flight cancellation crisis, air fares have gone completely out of control. All the airlines that are crushing humanity under their feet are charging not just one or two times but ten times the fare from stranded passengers. At the same time, DGCA has remained a complete mute spectator on this entire episode. Someone lost his job, someone lost his marriage, but it neither made any difference to the airlines nor to the DGCA. It remains to be seen how many troubles the passengers who are struggling with their condition still have to face.
Indigo Flight Cancellation Crisis: Due to the breakdown of IndiGo’s flight operation system, there is a situation of chaos at all the airports in the country. More than 2500 flights have been canceled within the last three days. Thousands of passengers are stranded at different airports. In such a situation, instead of helping the troubled passengers, other airlines are busy taking advantage of the opportunity. In the current situation, it would not be wrong to say that all the airlines have forgotten all the morality and have started looting the passengers. At the same time, the most sad thing is that the office of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which talks about protecting the interests of passengers, has remained a complete mute spectator.
What is the current situation, you can guess from the fact that till a few days ago, a ticket from Delhi to Mumbai was available for less than Rs 7000. Today the same ticket is available for around Rs 70 thousand. This is not just a matter of Patna Airport, but if we talk about Delhi to Patna, today the price of ticket which is usually available for Rs 5000 has reached Rs 47 thousand. These days the situation is such that if you visit London instead of Patna, the ticket there will be cheaper for you. While today’s Patna ticket is available for Rs 47 thousand, London ticket is available for only Rs 25 thousand.
Are the airlines out of the control of DGCA?
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Gopal Naidu has given clear instructions to DGCA not to increase flight fares at any cost. But DGCA seems to have completely failed in following these instructions of the Aviation Minister. Be it Indigo or any other airlines, they are doing whatever comes to their mind. The result of which can be seen in the increase of more than ten times in air fares. Now it remains to be seen when DGCA takes pity on the passengers and cracks down on the airlines and asks them to reduce the fares. Or DGCA remains a mute spectator as always.
Chaos like situation at every small and big airport of the country
Indigo’s system has completely broken down and thousands of passengers are stranded at the airport for the fourth day. All flights from Delhi airport till 12 midnight tonight and in Mumbai till 6 pm have been cancelled. The situation at other airports including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, Patna is also no different. No one is listening to the passengers from the airport to the DGCA, so they are venting their anger on social media. A passenger wrote that if IndiGo fails then other airlines are looting. A ticket worth Rs 5000 is worth Rs 50 thousand, this is robbery. Another writes that why should we suffer the punishment for Indigo’s negligence? Air India, Akasa, Vistara together have increased the fares by 8-10 times.
