Prajesh Kant Jena, deputy director of Palamu Tiger Reserve, told Local 18 that with the onset of winter, Kamaldah Lake becomes buzzing with foreign guests. During the winter season, the presence of 10 to 12 endangered species is seen in and around the lake.
Which includes many migratory birds including Siberian Bird, Sling Duck, Geese, Eurasian Sparrow, Northern Pintail, Rosy Pelican, Laser Whistle Duck. From December to January these birds make the lake their seasonal home, making the area a bird watcher’s paradise.
The hustle and bustle of wild life in the middle of the forest
He further said that Kamaldah Lake is a lifeline not only for birds but also for wildlife. Gaur, chital, elephant, deer and other animals living in the dense forests of Palamu Tiger Reserve come to drink water from this lake throughout the year. This lake plays an important role in the conservation of the natural eco-system and that is why it is kept under special surveillance by the Forest Department. This area remains open to tourists throughout the year except the rainy season.
The story of the lake related to the pages of history
The history of this lake, about 40 kilometers away from Palamu district headquarters, is equally attractive. It is said that during the time of kings, queens used to come to take bath in this lake, due to which its importance increases further. The nearby Palamu Fort and Kamaldah Lake together have formed a heritage circuit, where nature and history come together to welcome tourists.
Security and tourism facilities added to the charm
Keeping in mind the safety of tourists, a watch tower has been built on the lake shore, where there is 24-hour monitoring and wireless facility is available. The attractive bridge made of wood is very much liked by the tourists. With the deployment of forest personnel, tourists get immediate assistance in case of any problem. This is the reason why Kamaldah Lake has now become the biggest winter tourism hotspot of Palamu.
