Most of the youth resort to expensive powders in which chemicals and preservatives are added to build muscles and stay fit. Their prolonged consumption can affect the liver and kidneys. At the same time, protein powder made in indigenous way is full of nutrition and gives strength to the body without any harm. Khargone’s Ayurveda expert Dr. Santosh Maurya tells Local 18 that roasted gram, makhana, walnuts and munakka (big raisins) are used to make desi protein powder. Roasted gram is a good source of protein and fiber. Makhana is rich in calcium and minerals. Walnuts provide Omega-3 fatty acids while raisins provide iron and natural sweetness to the body. Fry all these things lightly, grind them in a mixer and store them in an airtight container. One or two teaspoons of this powder can be taken daily by mixing it with milk or curd.
