Aurangabad Banyan Tree Gets Heritage Status: The approximately 500 year old banyan tree present in Sahiyari village of Madanpur block of Aurangabad district of Bihar has been included in the heritage tree list by the Bihar government. The Environment Department of the Government of Bihar has recognized 32 trees of Bihar as heritage trees. This tree is spread over one bigha.
Gayaji: This approximately 500 years old banyan tree has been included in the heritage tree list by the Bihar government. The banyan tree present in Sahiyari village of Madanpur block of Aurangabad district of Bihar has been recognized as a heritage tree among the 32 trees of Bihar by the Environment Department of Bihar Government. Out of these 32 trees, one tree is in Sahiyari village of Madanpur block of Aurangabad district. Where a huge banyan tree whose age is more than 500 years has been included as a heritage tree.
Bihar Environment Forest and Climate Change Department has announced the selection of 32 trees in 5 districts. Which have been designated as Biodiversity Heritage Trees. These include species of banyan, peepal, neem, mahua and tamarind. The protected trees include trees from Buxar, Aurangabad, Jamui, Munger and Bhagalpur. The belief of this banyan tree, spread over an area of more than 1 acre in Sahiyari village of Aurangabad, is such that if anyone breaks or cuts its branch, he becomes blind.
The tree is worshiped considering it to be an incarnation of Mother Goddess.
Villagers say that for this reason this tree is worshiped considering it to be an incarnation of Mother Goddess. Below which the altar of Goddess Mata has also been constructed. People say that this tree is so old that it is being discussed since the time of grandparents. Be it a happy occasion or any religious ritual, it is definitely worshiped in the village. This tree will be conserved with the help of forest department experts. Steps will also be taken to ensure that this Mahavat tree remains alive and disease free for many centuries.
Among the trees selected by Bihar Biodiversity Board to be declared as heritage trees, the oldest one is from Aurangabad. There is a 500 year old banyan here, which is spread over about one bigha. Apart from the main tree, about 50 more roots have emerged from its branches. This tree has been famous for years for its size, expansion and local cultural connection.

Ram Vilas Bhuinya, a resident of the village, says that no one can tell how old this tree is, because we have been hearing about it from our ancestors. He believed that this tree was very old.
