Constant Fatigue: Feeling tired all the time is becoming quite common among today’s youth. For this, when they get a blood test done, everything comes out normal. Despite this they do not get relief from fatigue. Sometimes even the doctor gets surprised because there are no obvious reasons for this. Regular tests for fatigue and conditions such as anemia, thyroid disorders or diabetes are also common. Many people believe that if their basic blood tests are normal then their fatigue will either be mental or something minor. But doctors say that fatigue is a complex symptom which is affected by many physical, emotional and lifestyle factors. If it is not detected even in standard tests, it means that its cause is hidden.
These are the hidden reasons
Stress and lack of quality sleep –Dr. Sandeep Doshi, Consultant, Department of Internal Medicine and Executive Health Check-up, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, says that if it is not detected by normal tests and despite this there is constant fatigue, then it means that your stress and poor sleep quality is the hidden reason. Dr. Doshi told that among the hidden reasons, constant stress is a major reason. Apart from this, despite getting seven to eight hours of sleep, many people wake up feeling tired. Doctors say that the problem here is not the duration of sleep but its quality. There can be many reasons for this. Watching screens till late night, irregular working hours and constant brain activity disturbs the natural cycle of sleep. This reduces deep, restorative sleep and the person wakes up feeling tired in the morning.
Hormonal changes that normal tests cannot detect- Dr. Doshi said that hormonal fluctuations related to lifestyle are also emerging as major causes of unnecessary fatigue. Stress, lack of adequate sleep and irregular eating habits can lead to imbalance in the cortisol hormone, leading to a constant feeling of low energy. These changes are not visible in basic lab tests. That’s why people are often told that the report is normal while the real problem persists.
Micro nutrition needs –Dr. Sandeep Doshi told that nowadays most of the people are deficient in micronutrients. Mild deficiencies of vitamin D, vitamin B12 and magnesium are often found in people who complain of constant fatigue. In this the report is usually normal or borderline. This leads to loss of energy, mood and muscle function. These problems occur in people who depend more on processed diets instead of natural diets.
Less recognized pattern-This season saw a sharp increase in viral diseases like flu-like infections, prolonged cough and fever. Many people continue to feel unusually tired even after the external symptoms resolve. Doctors say that the inflammation caused by the virus and the recovery of the immune system may take several weeks, during which, despite the reports being normal, fatigue persists.
Emotional pressure, anxiety and depression –This is the most dangerous reason. Often, due to some reason or the other, people experience emotional pressure, anxiety and mild level of depression which often manifests in the form of physical fatigue. In recent times, doctors have seen more people coming in with complaints of fatigue, lack of concentration and low energy, but not recognizing that their roots lie in mental health.
What to do to avoid this fatigue
Doctors say that if you are feeling constantly tired despite your report being normal then it is not right to ignore it. Test various types of hormones and first of all see whether you are able to get restful sleep or your sleep gets disturbed repeatedly at night. Their medical examination is not normal, so identify it on the symptoms. After this, try to have a peaceful sleep and reduce the stress level. Along with this, take help of natural things for proper nutrition. Include green vegetables, fruits, seeds, dry fruits etc. in your diet. Nowadays screen time is the biggest problem. Reduce screen time completely. Leave the screen half an hour before sleeping at night. If there is vitamin deficiency, take help of natural food and drink.
