A big controversy arose regarding lower berth in a journey of Indian Railways. A young man shared the story of being insulted by female passengers on social media. Her post sparked online debate about passenger etiquette and seating rights.
New Delhi. The experience of a young man during an Indian Railways journey has now become a topic of discussion on social media. The youth told that some female passengers insulted him for not giving him a lower berth in the train. She shared her story on Reddit and asked, ‘Whose fault was it?’ This matter raises questions on both passenger etiquette and social behavior.
Women said- ‘Young boys sleep on the upper seat only’
According to the young man, he was going to his college and had a confirmed seat in the lower berth of 3rd AC. After some time, the women sitting next to him started asking him for his seat after talking. The young man refused because he had two heavy bags containing laptops and tablets. He told that it would have been difficult to work by climbing on the upper seat. Despite this, the women said that ‘young boys should sleep on the upper seat only’ and started blaming him.
Questions raised on IRCTC’s seat arrangement
The young man told that the women later started blaming IRCTC that ‘there is a glitch in the seat allotment system, in which women get the upper seats.’ He said that the Railway Department should give priority to women. During this argument, the women’s companions also came and kept staring at the young man. Although the young man did not leave his seat quietly, the entire journey was uncomfortable for him.
Opinions divided on social media
After the young man’s post went viral, people got divided into two groups on social media. Some people said that women passengers should get sympathy and comfort, while others supported the young man and said, ‘There is no compulsion to give up your seat on a confirmed ticket.’ Many users wrote that showing civility in the train should not be one-sided. This incident shows that both sensitivity and mutual respect are necessary in travel – otherwise even a simple journey can turn into a dispute.
