Hazaribagh Polytechnic College: The first polytechnic college of the district was built in Hazaribagh but it could never operate. This college, built with about Rs 100 crores, is also falling victim to wear and tear. A lot of work was done on paper but no progress was made on the ground.
Hazaribagh: The Government Polytechnic College, built at a cost of Rs 100 crore in Silwar Khurd, Hazaribagh, was once considered the biggest dream of technical education in the district. This was the only and first polytechnic college at the headquarters of North Chhota Nagpur division, but the irony is that even after a decade this dream could not become a reality.
This big campus, built in 2012-13, is lying deserted today without students, without teachers and without operation. Despite government claims and departmental notices, the college could not function even for a single day and is now slowly turning into ruins. Despite such huge government expenditure the institute is closed.
100 crore ruins!
The Technical Education Department had issued a notice related to enrollment and operations for the 2023–24 session. Guidelines were also posted on the website, but no action was taken on the ground. This college is shown running on the online portal, whereas the actual situation is completely opposite. Classrooms are closed, labs are locked, hostels are deserted and security arrangements are minimal. Dilapidation has started in many places in the buildings and the complex is gradually starting to look like ruins.
midterm repair
Local people said that due to closure of operations, in the past years the college premises were used for training of BSF, Home Guards and NCC. Temporary repairs of the premises were done before the BSF Foundation Day program in the year 2024, but after the program the college again returned to the same neglected state. The recognition of the college is registered on the AICTE site, but the required documents are incomplete.
Local Bateshwar Prasad told that if this institute is started then not only Hazaribagh but students of many surrounding districts will get huge benefit. At present students have to go to Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad or Bihar to study polytechnic. There is also no private polytechnic college in the district, due to which students have to face difficulties in both financial and educational terms. If this center opens, people nearby will also get employment.
