Sitamarhi News: Grain storage has always been a big challenge in the country, lakhs of tonnes of grains are destroyed every year due to moisture, temperature rise, accumulation of gases, smoke and mold. The solution to this problem has been presented is Smart IoT-Based Grain Storage Environmental Monitoring & Alert System.
Grain storage has always been a big challenge in an agricultural country like India. Every year millions of tonnes of grain gets destroyed due to moisture, rising temperature, accumulation of gases, smoke and mould. In such a situation, an innovative and low-cost solution has emerged regarding grain security in FCI warehouses – Smart IoT-Based Grain Storage Environmental Monitoring & Alert System. This system, prepared at a cost of only Rs 1800 to 2500, monitors the warehouse environment 24×7 and provides immediate danger information. This is being considered a big step forward in technology in grain conservation.
The system continuously monitors the environment through ESP32 microcontroller and advanced sensors. The DHT22 sensor measures temperature and humidity, the MQ-135 measures gas and air quality, while the MQ-2 sensor provides early warning of smoke and potential fire. The most important Flame Sensor directly detects the intensity of fire and issues an alert immediately. ESP32 processes the data received from these sensors and compares it with predetermined safe limits and immediately goes into ‘alert mode’ when danger is detected.
Notification of increase in temperature will come in mobile
As soon as danger appears, the system sends several types of warning signals simultaneously. Firstly, the buzzer gives an alarm with a loud sound, providing immediate status information to the warehouse staff. Red LED indicates danger. Also, real-time notification is sent to mobile or web app through WiFi. Be it a warning of rising temperature, information about excess moisture, gas leakage, smoke or fire. This quick response can prevent potential accidents. Grain can be protected in time. The specialty of the system is that there is very little human dependence in it. There is no need for constant monitoring, because the machine itself keeps monitoring the data every second. Currently, automatic fan or dehumidifier control system is not included. But can be easily added in the future. As soon as the danger is over, the system automatically returns to normal mode and again shows safe status with green light.
Technological Innovation in Agriculture Sector
This entire setup is so cheap and effective that it can be implemented on a large scale in other government-private warehouses including FCI. According to experts, this will significantly reduce the incidence of grain spoilage. Accidents like fire will be detected early and warehouse management will become more secure and modern. The project to develop a high-tech monitoring system in a low budget is emerging as an important example of technological innovation in the agriculture sector.
