Sushila Devi Prajapati of Ambala, Haryana has been raising her daughters by making and selling fireplaces, tandoors and stoves in winter for 30 years. Because the demand for fireplace and tandoor increases in winter and Sushila has been making them since childhood.
Ambala. As soon as the winter season starts, there is a huge drop in the temperature, and due to this drop in temperature, people start feeling cold and there is a lot of chill in the body. In such a situation, on one hand people use heaters to remove this chill, on the other hand, even today there are some people who get the feeling of warmth in the old way.
In fact, even today in rural areas of Haryana, people use Angeethi (fireplace) to heat their homes and have been using stoves for cooking for a long time. In such a situation, even today in Ambala district, taking forward this old heritage, Sushila Devi has been making and selling Angithi (fireplace), tandoor and stove during the winter season for the last 30 years. Although Sushila Devi also works in making earthen pots, but in winters, there is a huge demand for her stoves in the surrounding areas. Sushila has been raising her daughters for the last many years with the money she earns from this ancestral work, and on the other hand, people are also liking her work very much.
When Local 18 team talked to Sushila Devi Prajapati, she told that she has been doing the work of making stove, tandoor and angeethi from clay since childhood. He told that after marriage, his mother-in-law also used to make all these things and after which he has taken over this ancestral work. He said that he has two daughters, one of whom is completing his college studies and the other is married. She said that her husband also died about 10 years ago, after which this ancestral work gave her employment and with the money earned from it, she raised her children. He told that in the month of next December, people will buy these fireplaces and stoves from him, using which they will protect themselves from the winter.
He told that a small stove starts at Rs 300 and similarly, fireplaces are sold up to Rs 500. He told that the work of making this fireplace is started in empty iron buckets. Its mold is prepared with the help of clay. He said that with the changing times, some difficulties are being faced in taking this work forward, mainly in which it has become difficult to get soil. He told that earlier an earthen rehra was available for Rs 300, but now even that too is available for Rs 800. She said that every year she prepares an earthen stove, fireplace and tandoor in advance because the demand for all these things increases significantly in winter.
