Shimla. New orders of DGP Ashok Tiwari are in discussion in Himachal Pradesh. A circular has been issued on their behalf to police officers and employees, on which questions are also being raised.
Actually, the DGP has ordered the police employees not to talk to the media. The DGP said that only those who will be authorized will talk to the journalists and answer their questions.
In his letter, the DGP wrote that in many areas, DSPs and police station in-charge officers are communicating with the media on various topics and public statements are being made while taking charge on new postings. During this, comments are being made on topics related to crime, investigation and other policing.
The DGP wrote in his order that only the SP and DIG of the range can formally talk to the media regarding law and order, investigation, police policies and other matters. If necessary, discussions can be taken with the police headquarters after approval.
It was told in the circular what police officers will not do
• Addressing the media while holding his official position.
• Issuing statements or comments to print, electronic or social media, or giving interviews, briefings or responses on official matters. Unless authorized in writing.
Reference to service rules
The DGP said that Rule 7 of the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, prohibits government servants from making any statement or releasing information to the media and the public without the prior approval of the government and it is mandatory to comply with the conduct prescribed under Section 29 of the Himachal Pradesh Police Act, 2007. The DGP said that all officers will ensure that these instructions are strictly followed at every level. If anyone violates, disciplinary action will be taken.
Recently instructions were given regarding photos and reels in uniform.
Recently, the DGP had also issued guidelines to police employees regarding posting videos, posts and photos on social media and had said that no police employee in uniform will make photos and videos and post reels.
