Vaishali: Hundreds of deaths occur every year due to snake bites in India. Some people die after snake bite due to not getting timely treatment. At the same time, people bitten by snakes also lose their lives due to exorcism. According to statistics, every year 46 thousand people die due to snake bites in India. Of these, 15 percent deaths occur due to poisonous snake bites, while 85 percent deaths occur due to non-poisonous snake bites. Due to lack of awareness so many deaths occur.
SDRF has taken an excellent initiative to deal with this problem. SDRF is continuously running a commendable campaign to make the visitors aware about snake bites and its treatment at the world famous Sonpur Fair. The SDRF team is taking the help of street drama to provide information about protection from poisonous snakes and first aid in case of snake bite to the people coming to the fair in large numbers every day. According to the information, not only information is being given about the types of poisonous snakes but also people are being made aware about the treatment after snake bite through street drama.
The street theater team said that instead of panicking in case of snake bite, it is most important to seek medical help immediately. Also, it was advised to avoid any kind of exorcism, magic or piercing of wounds. The play also showed how being cautious while walking in forests or open areas, using torches and keeping the surroundings clean can reduce the danger posed by snakes.
This awareness campaign of SDRF is being greatly appreciated by the visitors to the fair. People say that such programs not only increase information but are also helpful in taking right decisions in case of disaster.
