New Delhi. There was a light-hearted moment in the Supreme Court on Tuesday when senior lawyer Gopal Sankaranarayanan told the court that he was unable to speak properly due to a sore throat. On this, Chief Justice Surya Kant said jokingly that this is everyone’s problem in Delhi these days.
This incident happened during the hearing in which the court had upheld the dismissal of a Christian army officer. That officer had refused to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. This case was being heard by the bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi. Advocate Shankaranarayanan appeared on behalf of the dismissed officer.
During the hearing, Sankaranarayanan, while presenting his arguments, said, sorry, I am not able to speak properly. I have a sore throat. On this, Chief Justice Surya Kant replied that this is everyone’s problem in Delhi these days. He was referring to the continuously deteriorating air quality in the capital, due to which the city residents are troubled. For the last several weeks, people of Delhi-NCR have not been able to get respite from bad air.
