CJI Suryakant: Supreme Court Chief Justice Suryakant expressed strong displeasure over the unnecessary out-of-turn mentioning of lawyers in the Punjab-Haryana High Court and said that now a fine of at least ₹ 50,000 will be imposed in such cases. He said that a special fund will be created from this amount which will be used for training and financial assistance to young lawyers. The CJI clearly said that from Monday, immediate action will be taken on unnecessary mentions so that the court’s time can be saved and the mentions process remains serious.
Fine will not be less than ₹50,000
The CJI told the Court Master, “We are planning to create a fund to support young lawyers. One way to fund it is to impose a penalty on frivolous mentions. Although the bench did not proceed with the order at that time. But the CJI took his point further and gave a strong message to the lawyers. He said, “From Monday, I will issue another notification that if there is any mentionation and I do not find it genuine, then I will impose the penalty at that very moment.” I will put it.” CJI said, “A circular will be issued. This fine will not be less than ₹50,000.”
The Supreme Court said that the purpose of this corpus is not only to provide financial assistance to young lawyers but it will also be used for training of young professionals. “One source of generating funds for the purpose of creating this corpus is to impose cost (penalty) on unnecessary mentions,” he said. Looking at the lawyers doing mention, he requested and advised the members of the bar to take mention seriously. He again asked in a light tone, “Please complete the order?” (Shall we complete our order?). Although the bench ultimately did not issue any final order at that time, the CJI’s strict intentions became clear. This step is a major effort towards saving the precious time of the court and securing the future of young lawyers.
