Sanwaliya Seth Temple Legends: Sanwaliya Seth Temple, located on the Jodhpur-Chittor Highway, is known for its unique stories and mysterious history. It is said that not only devotees but also opium smugglers consider him as their deity. The traders coming here consider it as their business partner and offer a part of their earnings to God.
Long ago, there lived a poor cowherd in Bagund village of Mewar. He was hardworking, but luck was not on his side. One night he dreamed that three divine idols were buried underground in the village chapar. In the morning he decided to dig. When the plow started moving, it suddenly hit something hard. When he removed the soil, there were three statues of the same beautiful, smiling and dusky Lord Krishna in front of him, as he had seen in his dreams. The farmer did not understand it. The same night he again dreamed that dark Krishna appeared before him and said, “Don’t be afraid, I am with you. From tomorrow your luck will change.” The miracle started the very next day. A spring of water appeared in the field, the crop doubled and the villagers came forward to help. Happiness returned to the house.
During this time, there was also talk of three Krishna idols stolen nearby. When people saw the statues, they understood that these were the same lost statues which the thieves had hidden. The elders said that the dark-skinned Shyam had come by his own election and would now stay here. One of these statues was installed in Mandafia, the second in Bhadsoda and the third in Bagund Chapar. Today all these temples are centers of attraction for the nearby devotees, and are located at a distance of about 5 kilometers from each other.
Special deity of opium smugglers-
Villagers believe that Seth fulfills every wish asked from the heart. Even opium smugglers consider this temple as their special deity. The faith can be understood from the fact that before sending their consignment, big smugglers bow their heads in the temple and offer a part of their earnings to God. Every month, when the donation box is opened on Amavasya, opium is often found in it along with the money. Since opium is called ‘black gold’, people also call Sanwaliya Seth the god of black gold.
