The rare and poisonous ‘Bamboo Pit Viper’ was rescued and released safely into the forest in Valmiki Tiger Reserve. This bright green colored snake is known for its excellent camouflage ability. The Forest Department has appealed to the villagers not to panic if they see wildlife and to immediately inform the authorities.
West Champaran: A rare snake named Bamboo Pit Viper was seen along 6 RD Road of Valmiki Nagar. As soon as information about the matter was received, the team of Wildlife Trust of India reached the spot and took safe custody of the snake and released it in the dense forest of Jatashankar area under Valmiki Nagar range. There was panic among the local people after seeing this venomous snake emerging from the dense forests of Valmiki Tiger Reserve, which is known as the hub of bio-diversity. However, WTI’s PRT member Kanhaiya Kumar, who reached the spot, handled the matter and carried out the rescue operation along with WTI member Murari Kumar.

Valmiki Nagar Range Ranger Amit Kumar said that the Bamboo Pit Viper is a rare and attractive snake. Its skin is bright green. It looks like green leaves, which makes it very difficult to identify. In search of food, these snakes usually remain stationary on green bushes, bamboo thickets and tree branches. Experts say that although this snake has a very peaceful nature, it does not shy away from biting when teased.
Live in the dense forests of VTR
In view of the conflict between humans and wild animals in the residential areas outside the forest area, the forest workers have appealed that in case of encounter with any wild animal, the villagers should not panic and should take time and immediately inform the forest department. As far as Bamboo Pit Viper is concerned, this snake is mainly found in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines. In India, it is found in dense forests and bamboo groves in the south and north-east. Bihar’s only tiger reserve ‘Valmiki’, spread over about 900 square kilometers, is also its favorite destination.
