India Bangladesh Border: Lieutenant General R.C. Tiwari took stock of the security of the India-Bangladesh border in Mizoram and Tripura. India’s four north-eastern states, Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km) and Assam (263 km), share a total 1,880 km long border with Bangladesh. The responsibility of security of the India-Bangladesh border rests with the Border Security Force (BSF).
Agartala. Amidst the current unstable situation in Bangladesh, Commander of Eastern Army Command, Lieutenant General R.C. Tiwari along with senior army officers visited the India-Bangladesh border areas in Mizoram and Tripura and reviewed the security arrangements and preparedness. While giving information on its X handle on Friday, the Eastern Command of the Indian Army said that Lieutenant General R.C. Tiwari, along with senior army officers, reached the company operating base of Assam Rifles and BSF deployed under Spear Corps at Parwa in Mizoram and took stock of the security situation along the India-Bangladesh border.
The post said that the Army Commander appreciated the tenacity, courage and high level of operational preparedness of the Assam Rifles and BSF soldiers. Apart from this, Lieutenant General Tiwari and General Officer Commanding Lieutenant General Abhijeet S. Pendharkar also visited Belonia, southern district of Tripura, along with senior officials and reviewed the situation related to the border.
It is noteworthy that the four north-eastern states of India, Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km) and Assam (263 km), share a total of 1,880 km long border with Bangladesh. The Border Security Force (BSF) is responsible for the security of the India-Bangladesh border.
Tripura shares a 856 km long border with Bangladesh and the state, being surrounded by the neighboring country on three sides, is considered vulnerable to smuggling and other cross-border crimes. Earlier, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said that the Indian government is keeping a close watch on the situation in Bangladesh and is fully prepared to deal with any situation.
The Chief Minister said that after the ouster of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power, many worrying and violent incidents have come to light in the neighboring country. He said that the Tripura government is regularly sending detailed reports to the Central Government on all the developments related to the situation across the border.
Chief Minister Saha told the media that many notorious terrorists, criminals and people involved in various crimes have been released from the jails of Bangladesh. He said that India and its armed forces are always ready to deal with every situation. The Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fully aware of the developments happening in Bangladesh and is keeping a close watch on it.
