Tezpur/Guwahati. Security agencies and police have achieved great success in Sonitpur district of Assam. The police have arrested a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) soldier, who has been accused of a very serious charge of playing with the security of the country. According to the police, this former officer was in constant touch with Pakistani spies through social media. It is alleged that he has shared sensitive documents and intelligence information with spies of the enemy country. Police have seized laptop and mobile phone from the accused. Considering the seriousness of the case, the local court has sent the accused on police remand for 5 days, where he will be strictly interrogated.
Social media becomes a weapon of espionage Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Haricharan Bhumij said that many shocking things have come to light in the preliminary investigation. Investigation has revealed that the accused had contacted Pakistani intelligence or spies using social media platforms. He passed sensitive information and documents through these mediums. When the police raided, he confiscated his laptop and mobile phone. Officials said that the accused had deleted a lot of data from the device due to fear of being caught.
Secrets will be revealed in forensic investigation
Police officer Bhumij said that the seized devices (laptop and mobile) have been sent to the lab for forensic examination. Although the accused has deleted some data, forensic experts are trying to recover that data. It is expected that after recovery it will become clear what kind and how much information he has sent to Pakistan. Deleted data can prove to be the most important evidence in this case.
The accused was a junior warrant officer
The arrested person has been identified as a former junior warrant officer of the Indian Air Force. According to records, he retired from Salonibari Airbase in Tezpur in the year 2002. After retirement, he also worked for some time in the Electronics Department of Tezpur University, but later left the job there. This kind of involvement of a former soldier with Pakistani spies is a matter of concern for the security agencies.
Case registered under BNS
The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). On Saturday, he was presented in the court, from where he was sent to police custody for 5 days. Now the police and intelligence agencies will together find out whether he was getting money in return for this work or whether he was trapped in a honey trap.
