Why is this report important for India
Actually, India is currently facing shortage of fighter jets. Apart from America and Russia, China is the only country which has made its own fifth generation fighter jet. India is currently stuck on class 4 and 4.5 fighter jets. With the generation gap, the number of fighter planes it has has also reduced significantly. The Air Force should have 42 squadrons but currently only 30 squadrons are operational. Work is going on at many levels regarding this. In some reports, it has been claimed that India will buy 114 Rafale fighter aircraft to fulfill this shortage, while in some it is said that India will make do with indigenous fighter jets Tejas and Tejas MK1A. The government has awarded the contract for 180 units of Tejas MK1A.
