During school time, the traffic in the city comes to a complete halt and many times school buses remain stuck in traffic for hours. Children sitting in the buses are seen pleading the policemen to clear the way. Such continuous situation also puts mental pressure on children. Many times police officers themselves get stuck in traffic and then strict action is taken to clear the way, but this is not a permanent solution.
Rohtas: The issue of vendor zone, which was pending for about eight years in Dehri Municipal Council of Rohtas, Bihar, has now started moving forward. After a long wait, the Municipal Council has finally selected the land for this and the formalities of the concerned departments are also in the final stages. It is expected that the process of vendor zone construction will start in the coming days. This will provide relief to the city from frequent traffic jams and road disorders. In the main market of the city, Station Road, Pali Road and many other crowded areas, traffic jams are created every day due to the presence of handcarts and footpath shops on both sides. The traffic pressure increases so much that sometimes there is a long queue of vehicles even to travel short distances. After the vendor zone is ready, temporary shopkeepers will get a fixed place due to which the roads will remain empty and the city will get relief from traffic jams.
Recently, a recent example of this disorder was seen near Police Station Chowk when there was a dispute between two shopkeepers over setting up a shop on the roadside. The situation became so bad that the local people had to intervene and calm down the matter and inform the administration. This incident clearly shows that the absence of designated space for footpath shops creates a situation of tension and disruption on a daily basis. The biggest impact of this chaos falls on school children.
The city council had been demanding land from the irrigation department for the vendor zone for the last several years. The three-corner land of the Irrigation Department has been considered suitable for the vendor zone and according to the Municipal Council, the process of getting NOC is now almost complete. Executive Officer Vimal Kumar said that the construction of the vendor zone will be started as soon as the permission is received and temporarily the three-corner area has also been prepared for the street vendors. Shopkeepers say that if the vendor zone is constructed, not only will their everyday problems end but the city will also get great relief from traffic jams.
This proposal, which was stuck in the files for a long time, is now close to getting off the ground. Considering the expectations of the city and the road disorder, this vendor zone is being considered a big step for Dehri. The Municipal Council hopes that soon the city will get rid of the old problem of traffic jams and footpath encroachment.
