Indian Railways appointed Pratika Rawal, Sneha Rana and Renuka Singh Thakur on officer grade, which has provided financial security and administrative responsibility to women cricketers. These three players will now get salary and facilities equivalent to Group-A officers.
New Delhi. Indian Railways has given out-of-turn promotion to world champion women cricket players Pratika Rawal, Sneha Rana and Renuka Singh Thakur. He has been appointed to the post of Officer on Special Duty (OSD-Sports). These three players will now get salary and facilities equivalent to Group-A officers. With this initiative of Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), women cricketers will not only get financial security but will also be given administrative responsibilities.
Himachal Pradesh fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has played 11 Tests, 46 ODIs and 58 T20 international matches for India in the last four years. Renuka, who won gold medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, was a member of the 2022 Asia Cup winning team and was a part of the runner-up team of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, has taken 62 wickets in ODIs and 68 wickets in T20. His accurate swing and ability to take wickets with the new ball make him one of the best fast bowlers in the world.
Gujarat off-spinner Sneha Rana, while making her debut in the Bristol Test against England in 2021, played an important role in saving the draw by taking 4/131 in the first innings and 78 runs in the second innings. So far he has played 4 Tests, 23 ODIs and 39 T20 matches. Known for her useful lower-order batting along with 11 wickets in Test, 24 in ODI and 31 in T-20. His innings, which led India to victory by scoring 53* runs in 49 balls at number 10 in the ODI against Sri Lanka in 2022, is still remembered.
Delhi all-rounder Pratika Rawal has not been able to make her international debut yet, but is continuously performing brilliantly in domestic cricket. Pratika, who was the captain of Delhi in Senior Women’s ODI and T20 Trophy, scored more than 500 runs in the last season and also took many important wickets. Seeing his dedication and leadership ability, Railways has given him a place directly in the officer grade. This step is a new chapter for Indian women’s cricket, when players are getting the option of a respectable career along with the game.
