India-Angola Relationship: President Draupadi Murmu is currently on a tour of the southern African country Angola. His visit is taking place on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Angola, which is the first visit of an Indian head of state here. There he met with Angolan President Joao Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço at the Presidential Palace in Luanda. During this, he praised Angola’s important role in India’s energy security.
Big supplier of oil and LNG
Apart from Russia, India also buys crude oil and petroleum products from Angola. After Nigeria, Angola is the second largest supplier of oil and LNG to India. Apart from this, India also buys diamonds and other precious stones and iron, copper and aluminum on a large scale from Angola. On one hand, America’s pressure on India regarding the purchase of Russian oil is increasing, in that situation the dependence on countries like Angola for energy purchase may increase in the future.
President Droupadi Murmu held wide ranging bilateral discussions with President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.

trade between india and angola
There is a trade of about 4.2 billion dollars between India and Angola. India imports about 3.5 billion dollars from Angola. Of these, more oil is purchased. Here, things like medicines, meat, leather products, tractors, vehicles, textiles and chemicals are sent from India to Angola. Apart from this, India has also given a loan of 200 million dollars for the purchase of defense equipment, their modernization and training of the armies. Both countries are ready to help each other.
Apart from the energy sector, now both the countries can cooperate with each other in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductor and Electric Vehicles. President Murmu also said something similar during his state visit. He told that in the coming time, high-speed trains like Vande Bharat can be sent to Angola. This can bring a revolution in the rail sector there too, just like in India.
