PM Modi at G-20 Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on equal opportunity and equal access in the world. He said that AI should enhance human capabilities, but the final responsibility for decisions should always remain with humans. If this does not happen then humanity will be in danger.
Johannesburg: In the third session of the ongoing G20 summit in South Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on an issue which is very important at this time. He put forth a strong and clear message – Fair and Just Future for All. He said that as technology is advancing rapidly, opportunities and resources are becoming limited to only a few countries and companies. Because of this, conflict over critical technology is increasing, which has become a matter of concern for both humanity and innovation.
As a solution to this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the need to promote technology like not finance-centric, human-centric, not national, global and closed model but open-source model. He said that India has tried to incorporate this thinking in all its tech projects and the result is the world’s largest digital payment system. He said that from space technology to AI, India is seeing widespread participation and rapidly growing innovation.
Misuse of AI must be stopped
Explaining his priorities on AI, PM Modi said that India’s approach rests on three foundations – access to all, skill development at the population level and responsibility. He told that under India-AI Mission, India is creating such a high-performance computing ecosystem so that the benefits of AI can reach every district and every language. However, PM Modi warned the world that AI should not be misused as it can become a threat to the entire humanity. For this, a global AI compact is necessary, in which human monitoring, security, transparency are important. Apart from this, rules like strict ban on the use of AI in crime and terrorism should be included. He said that any AI system that affects human life, safety or public trust must be held responsible. AI should enhance human capabilities, but the final responsibility for decisions should always remain with humans.
