Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link: Indian Army has increased its strength manifold in Kashmir Valley. The day of 16 December 2025 has been recorded in the pages of history. For the first time, the Army has transported tanks and artillery from Jammu to Kashmir through Military Special Train. This is the biggest success of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. Till now, carrying heavy goods through roads took a lot of time and also had to bear the vagaries of weather. But now the train has made this task easier. This step is no less than an alarm bell for the enemies across the Northern Borders. Railways and Army worked together in this operation. This has given a new edge to the army’s logistics capability and operational preparedness.
All this was part of a validation exercise. The army moved heavy weapons from Jammu region to Anantnag. Main battle tank in this. Large artillery guns and road-building dozers were included. All these were loaded on the wagons of the special train and sent. Even on 18 December 2025, army trucks were seen on the special train on the Jammu-Srinagar rail route.
PTI pictures showed army vehicles loaded on the train. This was part of routine strategic deployment. Their reaching Anantnag via train proves that now the mobility of the Indian Army has become faster than before.
Roads were often closed during heavy snowfall in Kashmir. There was a danger of landslide on the National Highway. In such a situation, it would take several days to deliver supplies and weapons. But the rail link has changed the game. This milestone, achieved in close coordination with the Railway Ministry, is very important.
