New Delhi. Keeping the fog in mind, Indian Railways has canceled more than 50 trains. This includes trains from Ambala, Firozpur, Moradabad and Delhi divisions of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Trains have been completely stopped from mid-December to the end of February. Daily used trains like Delhi-Shamli, Delhi-Jind, Delhi-Bareilly, Jalandhar-Firozpur, Lucknow-Shahjahanpur are also included in this list.
Northern Railway’s CPRO Himanshu Shekhar said that visibility becomes negligible in dense fog, making it dangerous to run small trains. Major trains affected from Delhi include dozens of MEMUs going to Delhi-Shamli (54057/58), Delhi-Jind (54031/34), Delhi-Bareilly (54076/75), Delhi-Satroad, Ghaziabad-Palwal, Farrukhnagar and Kosikalan.
In Punjab-Haryana, trains like Jalandhar-Firozpur, Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar, Fazilka-Bathinda, Ambala-Nangal Dam, Ambala-Patiala are closed. In Moradabad division, 12 trains of Lucknow-Shahjahanpur, Bareilly-Moradabad, Sitapur-Shahjahanpur have also been cancelled. Railways has advised that before traveling, check the status of the train by using the app or calling 139. If the fog increases further, the number of canceled trains may also increase. As soon as the weather clears, these trains will start again.
This time also many special arrangements are being made to avoid delays and accidents due to fog. A GPS based fog safety device has been installed in every engine, which automatically tells the distance and location of the signal.
Automatic Train Protection System (Kavach). Till now, armor has been installed on 3000+ kilometers, which automatically stops the train even in fog if the signal is missed.
LHB coach. In all Mail-Express, the old coaches have been replaced with LHB coaches, which are safer in case of derailment. Hot axle detection and hi-tech signaling. At many places, sensors are installed to instantly detect hot axles and brake bindings. There is special training of pilots and a strict speed limit of 30-40 km per hour in foggy areas at night.
