Mizapur News: Vikram Jain told that after business being affected from America, 25 percent orders are being received. However, after business from America was affected, now business from China has increased. Now a lot of orders for hand made carpets are coming from China, but only expensive carpets are being demanded from there.
Mirzapur: After the 50 percent tariff imposed by America on Indian goods, the carpet business has been affected the most. The carpet trade from America was worth Rs 800 crore, which has come down to just Rs 200 crore after the imposition of tariff. Demand has reduced by 75 percent. After business from America was affected, business from China and Brazil has increased. The demand for expensive carpets has increased in China. However, the old days are still not back.
Traders in confusion due to increase in tariff
Vikram Jain, a big carpet businessman, told Local 18 that the International Fair of Handmade Carpets was recently held in Bhadohi, which ran between October 11 and October 16. There has been some improvement in the carpet business and due to tireless efforts 200 buyers participated in the fair. There is still confusion among American buyers as to how to buy it. He hopes that the Indian government will take some action on this, because big business has been affected due to the imposition of tariff. Now the circumstances are gradually improving. There is still hope that if this tariff becomes 25 percent then the business will get a boost.
25 percent orders are being received now
Vikram Jain told Local 18 that after the business from America was affected, 25 percent of the orders are being received. However, after the business from America was affected, now the business from China has increased. Now a lot of orders for hand made carpets are coming from China, but only expensive carpets are being demanded from there.
Still cheap carpets are not going away. The wholesale sale of carpets is not happening right now. This is the reason why the carpet business has been greatly affected. The government is progressive towards carpet weavers, but as of now no significant impact is visible on the ground. Even now the demand for carpet has not been the same as it was before the US tariff.
