Microsoft India investment: Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American multinational technology company Microsoft, said on Wednesday that he is excited about the data center capacity being set up by his company in India and he has discussed the company’s investment plan with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The company will invest 17.5 billion US dollars
Nadella has announced an investment of US$17.5 billion by 2030 to help build the infrastructure and sovereign capabilities for the country’s artificial intelligence (AI)-driven future. Which is the third big AI-driven investment in the country in the last two months. Also, this investment is Microsoft’s biggest investment in Asia so far.
At an event at Microsoft, Nadella said, “We are very excited about the increasing capacity of the data center.” We already have facilities in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai. We are also very excited about our ‘India South Central Cloud Region’ based in Hyderabad which is going to be launched next year.

Hyderabad-based Microsoft’s ‘India South Central Cloud Region’ is expected to become operational in mid-2026. Nadella said, “We are very excited by the investment we have made. I got a chance to meet Prime Minister Modi yesterday (Tuesday) and discussed our eagerness for investment.
As India prepares to implement the digital personal data protection regime, Microsoft is launching sovereign public cloud and sovereign private cloud services for Indian customers. He said, “I think it is important for people to understand that along with sovereignty, it is also important to ensure world-class cyber security and strength.”
