Mistry’s trustee post ended on October 27. According to the resolution passed by the Board of Trustees on October 17, 2024, he was to be re-appointed as a life trustee. However, the proposal for his reappointment in two major trusts, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust, was not supported by three trustees. Because of this he could not be re-appointed.

Two factions were formed in Tata Trusts. One was led by Noel Tata and the other by Mehli Mistry. It is noteworthy that after the death of Ratan Tata, Mistry played an important role in making Noel the chairman of Tata Trusts. But, there was a dispute between the two regarding the re-appointment of Vijay Singh, another trustee of the trusts.

I am confident that this letter will help put an end to the speculations which are not in the interest of Tata Trusts and are contrary to its objectives. I leave with the same statement that Ratan Tata often used to tell me, ‘No man is greater than the institution he serves…'”
In his letter he also said that Ratan N. His commitment to Tata’s vision also means that he ensures that Tata Trusts does not get embroiled in any controversy, as any such situation could cause irreparable damage to the institution’s reputation. Tata, who always prioritized public interest before his own interests, I hope that the actions of other Trustees in times to come will be guided by the principles of transparency, good governance and public interest.”
