The huge cloud of ash raised after the eruption of Ethiopia’s Haile Gubbi volcano has now reached India. This ash first appeared over Rajasthan and Gujarat and by late night its layers reached the sky of Delhi also. As soon as volcanic ash entered North India, high alert has been issued in the weather and aviation sectors. There is a hazy blanket in the sky, while the already dangerous level of pollution in Delhi has become more frightening.
In view of this, DGCA has given strict instructions to all airlines to decide flight plans while avoiding ash-laden airspace. Flights have also been asked to carry extra fuel, choose alternative routes and carry out special checks on engines as ash particles can damage the engine.
The impact of volcanic ash may be more or less, but the reality is that Delhi’s air is already at critical levels. The overall AQI of the capital was recorded at 363, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. The situation is even more dire in many areas.

Ashes of Ethiopia’s Haile Gubbi volcano reached Delhi, IMD told what is the danger
After the eruption of Haile Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia, a huge cloud of ash has reached the sky of Delhi via Rajasthan and Gujarat. However, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has clarified that the volcanic ash is present at a very high altitude and due to this, there is little possibility of it having a major impact on pollution at the ground level. Despite this, there has been a major impact on aviation, as the ash plume is present up to an altitude of 45,000 feet, exactly where most international flights fly in cruising mode.
