Karma Dance: Karma dance is traditional tribal folk dance, especially celebrated during the festival of ‘Karam’ or ‘Karma’, this Karma dance is related to prosperity and good fortune and is performed in the festival starting on Ekadashi of Bhadrapada month. This dance is performed in groups on the beats of traditional musical instruments Maander, Nagara cymbal, in which the dancers harmonize with each other and dance with the rhythm.
Let us tell you, Karma dance was presented by Jagriti Karma Dal Madwa today on 11th December in the event of District Level Youth Festival 2025-26 in the Auditorium Hall located in Janjgir. This traditional dance greatly impressed the audience sitting in the auditorium hall. At the same time, the girls performing the Karma dance told that this Karma dance is performed in the village, which is a traditional tribal dance performed during the ‘Karma Utsav’ celebrated on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Bhado month (in August and September), which is danced to symbolize the good harvest of farmers in Chhattisgarh and its fertility and prosperity. In this, people celebrate happiness by dancing in groups with Nagara and Mandar.

Sunita Kanwar, a girl doing Karma dance, told that we are from village Madwa and we are in the group Karma Nitya and the name of our group is Jagriti Karma Nitya Madwa, in which our group consists of 70 to 10, and all of us, our traditional Chhattisgarhi saree of Chhattisgarh which is called Lugra in Chhattisgarh, with this dress there is a crest on the head, peacock feathers and a belt made of cowries tied on the forehead, around the neck. Karma dance is performed with Gauthla Mala, and Rupiya Mala made of old coins, in which the old musical instruments Mandar, Dhol Tasha, Nisha and cymbals and Manjira are played. Karma dance is performed to its tune.
