Indian Vs Japanese Bosses: A viral Reddit post has sparked a debate on the way bosses in India and Japan work. The post showed how managers from both countries react completely differently to the same leave request.
Indian Vs Japanese Bosses: Asking for leave in the office is not as easy as it seems. It usually depends on the attitude of the boss. Recently, a post on the social media platform Reddit sparked a debate on this issue on the internet. On the same leave request, the Japanese manager showed humanity, while the Indian boss expressed strictness. Both of them agreed to leave, but there was a world of difference in their style. Now people are asking whether the thinking of ‘work first, life later’ is still prevalent in India?
A user shared two screenshots. Its title was ‘Difference between a Japanese Manager and an Indian Manager’ i.e. difference between a Japanese Manager and an Indian Manager. The user told that he had to go to his home for some important work and he had 7 casual leaves left.
Loving message from Japanese boss, Indian boss said – stay online!
The Japanese manager replied- Good day! Noted down. Being careful while going home means a polite and caring message. The Indian manager’s reply was – Approved. Being online and mailing on Teams and Mail means leave is acceptable, but not away from work.
Users are giving feedback on work culture
Thousands of people gave their opinion on the post. Many users wrote that in Japanese or European work culture, there is a thinking of ‘life first, work later’, whereas in India, the attitude of ‘work first, life later’ is common. Many people believe that even a small step like granting leave shows how much respect and trust an organization treats its employees. This is not just a holiday, but a matter of empathy and respect.
