Hazaribagh: Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand is an agricultural district. Where almost two-thirds of the population is associated with agriculture. Many farmers here are giving a new dimension to farming on the strength of their hard work and technical understanding. One such farmer includes Ram Prasad Kushwaha, resident of Amanari village of Sadar block of the district, who is recognized among the unique and progressive farmers of the district. Who are easily earning an income of Rs 7 to 8 lakh every year by farming in just one and a half acre of land.
Farmer Ram Prasad Kushwaha told Local 18 that agriculture is the basis of his success. He produces various types of cash crops on his land with proper farming system, so that he can get more profit even in less area. Also, with the aim of promoting organic farming, he minimizes the use of chemicals, due to which the demand for his crops remains high in the market and he is able to sell his crops at expensive rates.
Animal husbandry is done along with farming.
Along with farming, he is also involved in multidimensional self-employment. He is also working in many fields like chicken rearing, goat rearing, fisheries, pig rearing, cow rearing. In his farm, he not only has indigenous breed of chickens like Sonali, he also rears premium breed Kadaknath, which is in great demand in the market. From all these activities they get many sources of permanent income.
People used to taunt for farming
Ram Prasad Kushwaha further says that when he started farming, many people used to taunt that the son of a government employee would not be able to do farming, but he did not give up and kept moving forward by working hard and adopting new techniques. His progressive thinking not only gained him recognition in the district, but farming also took him to Israel for training. Today his model has become an inspiration for other farmers.
The most special thing about his farm is that nothing is wasted here. The waste from one animal is used as food for other animals or as fertilizer for the farm. This system reduces their costs to a great extent and makes farming profitable.
In the end, Ram Prasad Kushwaha advises farmers to adopt cash crops and new technologies along with traditional farming. He said that if the youth adopt the modern agricultural model, farming will get a stronger direction and rural youth will also be attracted by it.
