Due to continuous use of chemical fertilizers in the field, the soil becomes weak and acidic. Due to which the yield decreases. According to agricultural scientist Dr. Pankaj Kumar Sinha, nutrients are not absorbed properly by crops in acidic soil. To overcome this problem, spraying a special white powder is the most effective and cheapest solution.
For better production in farming, it is no longer enough to depend only on seeds and fertilizers, but improving the soil has also become equally important. Due to continuous excessive use of chemical fertilizers the soil of the fields becomes weak and acidic. Which has a direct impact on the production of crops.
On this subject, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Sinha, agricultural scientist of ICIR Center located at Goriyakarma, Hazaribagh, said that the soil of most of the districts of Jharkhand is of acidic nature. In acidic soil, crops are not able to absorb manure and fertilizers properly, due to which production decreases. In such a situation, it is very important to balance the pH and for this, chana is the most effective and cheapest solution.
He further explained that the calcium present in Chuna strengthens the structure of the soil. Due to this, the development of crops and roots improves and the plants become stronger. Apart from this, Chuna also reduces the effect of harmful elements like aluminum and iron present in the soil. Which harm crops in acidic soil. By adding lime the soil becomes friable and its water holding capacity increases.

He further said that it is very important for the farmers to know the correct amount of spraying. For normal acidic soil, 2 to 4 quintals per acre is considered sufficient. If the soil is more acidic, this quantity can go up to 5 quintals per acre. However, the best way to determine the correct quantity of lime is to get the soil tested.
He further said that the right time for spraying is equally important. Chuna should always be poured at the time of field preparation before sowing the crop. About 20 to 25 days before sowing, it should be sprinkled evenly in the selected field and mixed well in the soil with a plow or cultivator. After this, light irrigation shows results quickly.
Talking about the types of lime used in farming, mainly agricultural lime and dolomite lime are in vogue. Agricultural lime fulfills the deficiency of calcium, whereas magnesium is also found in dolomite lime along with calcium. In fields where there is magnesium deficiency, choosing dolomite proves to be more beneficial. This selected agricultural center is made available free of cost to the farmers in the district by Atma.
There is no need to spray chenna every year. Once Chuna is added in the right quantity, its effect lasts for three to four years. After adding chhana, the yield of crops increases and the need for chemical fertilizers also reduces, due to which the cost of farming reduces.
Dr. Pankaj Kumar Sinha has said that if farmers spray selectively, they can maintain the fertility of the soil for a long time. In the era of changing climate and increasing costs, it is very important to pay attention to soil management. Chosen spraying is a simple, cheap and effective solution.
